St. Paul's Cathedral watches over a staircase transformed into pure chromatic rebellion. Escalier Spectrum strips London's brutalist architecture of its concrete monotony, reimagining each step as a band of colour that cascades down like a waterfall of geometric precision.
The sacred dome looms in muted reverence whilst the foreground explodes in oranges, teals, blacks, and creams — each stripe a deliberate act of visual insurgency against architectural conformity. The steps no longer serve mere function; they become a symphony of ascending and descending hues.
What was once utilitarian concrete becomes a canvas for optical illusion. The eye travels not just up and down, but through layers of colour that seem to pulse and vibrate against the classical backdrop.
Part of Foundation Seven, this piece confronts the tension between London's historical grandeur and its contemporary potential. It suggests that transformation is always possible — even the most mundane infrastructure can become extraordinary through the lens of radical colour theory.
